Bio
Ms Klarine Engelbrecht (nee Schutte) is a passionate conservationist and community developer with a background in Agricultural Economics. She holds a BScAgric (Cum laude) in Agricultural Economics from the University of Pretoria and is currently pursuing an MSc in Agricultural Sciences at Stellenbosch University. Her research, titled "Measuring the Impact of South African National Parks' Wildlife Economy Programme on the Lives of Local People and Biodiversity Conservation," is being supervised by Dr Hayley Clements, with co-supervisors Prof Karen Esler and Dr Howard Hendricks (SANParks). The study evaluates how game loan and donation programs contribute to socio-economic development, conservation, and community development initiatives. She helps manage a roan breeding program in Kruger National Park and has led various community projects, including a blanket project, the establishment of a library, and the construction of a community hall in Skukuza. Klarine is committed to bridging conservation and socio-economic development, ensuring that rural communities benefit from conservation efforts.

Ms Klarine Engelbrecht joined AWEI in September 2024 as a Programme Assistant and Research Associate. She is contributing to various AWEI projects, furthering her dedication to integrating conservation with sustainable rural development.
