AWEI Research Associate - Biodiversity & Carbon Finance
Matthew Child has worked at the Endangered Wildlife Trust and the South African National Biodiversity Institute as a specialist in the biodiversity economy, He has experience in mobilizing policy-relevant data and building information systems to ensure effective decision-making on the sustainable use of wildlife. Recently, he co-founded the Sustainable Wildlife Economies Project, which recruited young graduates to collect foundational information on wildlife ranches across the country. He has authored or co-authored twenty-four peer-reviewed publications in the conservation science field and holds a doctorate in wildlife management through the University of Pretoria. He is also a co-founder of Rewild Capital, which seeks to channel carbon finance to African rangelands.
