Dr Babara van Asch

Bio
Dr Baraba van Asch's current research focuses on documenting insect biodiversity - edible insects, agricultural pests, and invasive species. She uses genomics, phylogenetics and population genetics tools to understand phylogeographic patterns that can assist in conservation and management of insects of positive or negative economic interest in Southern Africa and beyond. Her team includes a diverse group of postgraduate students and collaborators from a wide range of backgrounds and a common passion for insect biodiversity.
Dr van Asch is member of the Department of Genetics at Stellenbosch University. She has a PhD in Biological Sciences from the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto.
