The GEF 8 Stakeholder Curriculum Co-Design Workshop is a component of the implementation of a Community-Centred Leather Business Development project for a Wildlife-Based Economy in the Greater Kruger Biodiversity Economy Node (GKBEN). This workshop is by invitation only.

The Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC), in partnership with the African Wildlife Economy Institute (Stellenbosch University) – AWEI and Kulani Collective (KC), is implementing a Community-Centred Leather Business Development project for a Wildlife-Based Economy in the Greater Kruger Biodiversity Economy Node (GKBEN). This project is supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF 8) Small Grants Projects Programme and aims to build capacity across the leather value chains by empowering local communities and entrepreneurs to meaningfully participate in the wildlife economy.

As part of the project implementation, we are convening a Stakeholder Curriculum Co-Design Workshop to co-develop a relevant training curriculum for community participants and entrepreneurs involved in the leather value chains.

The workshop will bring together key stakeholders in the GKBEN, community leaders, technical experts, training institutions and project partners to ensure the training curriculum is practically grounded and aligned with the project’s objectives. Part of this project includes developing a business-oriented training programme for organic leather.

The purpose of the GEF 8 Stakeholder Curriculum Co-Design Workshop

  • Co-design and refine the training curriculum for organic leather tanning, leather craft production and enterprise development.
  • Identify the key skills, competencies, and learning outcomes required of participating community members.
  • Ensure the curriculum aligns with industry standards, enterprise development needs and conservation objectives.
  • Facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange between partners, technical experts and training institutions involved in the project.

The workshop is scheduled as follows:
